Welcome to Carribean Woman

Welcome to Caribbean Woman - Focus in the Community - a site whose aims and objectives it is to inspire and encourage people of Caribbean heritage in their personal development and growth. Thank you for logging onto what we hope is a refreshing site. We hope that the material you find here will help you to make positive life-changing decisions.

At Caribbean Woman we realise the importance of acknowledging and celebrating the vital role that men play within our society and by adding a men's page we aim to balance the gender scales. We will look at issues relating to innovative and valuable work being carried out in the community by many men's organisations and individuals.

The site will also focus on educational issues, looking at innovative work being carried out in many of our schools with children from the black and ethnic minority background. The TCS SEMINAL COLLEGE in Kingsbury has a very impressive track record, an interview worth reading.

We will also be looking at raising awareness regarding health issues relating to the importance of organ donation, giving blood, Leukaemia etc. This year, our aim is to branch out more fully to explore at grass root level issues that really affect our community.

A report looking at a piece of research carried out by Caribbean Woman on an organisation called ROOTS FOR REAL, who offer a service which traces ones roots by using DNA has now been posted. This report will cover interviews with a selection of people who have used this service and the impact it has made on their lives.

Furthermore, Felix Cross, Chief Executive of Europe's oldest Black theatre company, A Nitro, talks about his life and his latest production called Slamdunk a hip-hop musical which will be at the Hackney Empire from 20th April 2014.

Take a look at our humour site. Like what you see - then purchase a copy of Esther Austin's comedy books: Laugh at Life With me - From A little Bajan Woman's Perspective - Volumes I and II now available, retailing at only £5.

Hotel Vulcano, Tenerife

We have stayed in Playa de las Americas on and off over the last 25 years, starting off in the heart of the town as close as possible to the nightlife and slowly but surely moving slightly further out! We enjoy a good night out but are a bit long in the tooth for the night clubs now, however we still very much love Playa de las Americas; we just walk past Veronicas now as opposed to falling out of it at 5am!!

We think we have found the jewel in the crown with the Hotel Vulcano, it is close enough to the strip for us to wander along and reminisce about the “good old days” yet far enough away not to be bothered by the people falling out of it at 5am!!! There are 2 swimming pools with towels provided on the sun beds, a lobby bar with occasional pianist, pool bar serving snacks and a Buffet restaurant with themed evenings and show cooking. The rooms are spacious and clean, we usually stick to a standard room as the facilities are enough for us and include a mini bar and piped music!

We have done most of the trips over the years so tend just to go and relax these days but still often enjoy trips up the beautiful Mount Teide.  We have visited Aqualand many times but haven’t managed to try out the beautiful nature of Tenerife

We would highly recommed the Hotel Vulcano to anyone wanting to enjoy Playa de las Americas at a slightly more leisurely pace and would say don’t let the party atmosphere of this town put you off, it is a beautiful place and well worth a visit.
